AMP: How Fuse’s Color Enhancing Lenses Came to Life

At Fuse Lenses, we’ve always believed that eyewear should do something for you. Not just look good, it should make you see the world better the moment you put it on. That belief is what led us to AMP. Long before AMP was ever a product name, we were watching a shift happen in the eyewear industry. Color enhancement was becoming the next big thing in sports and performance lenses. Brands were leaning heavily into the idea that smarter lens technology could improve clarity, contrast, and overall visual performance. On the surface, it all sounded promising, but once we started testing what was actually out there, we realized something important. A lot of these lenses were impressive in theory, but underwhelming when you were actually wearing them. They could be measured by equipment, but when you put them on? The difference was subtle, sometimes barely noticeable at all. And for us, that wasn’t good enough.

Why We Decided to Build Our Own

From the beginning, Fuse has existed to challenge the idea that premium lens performance can only come from massive brands with massive budgets. When we saw color enhancement becoming such a dominant talking point, we knew we wanted to be part of that conversation, but only if we could do it better. So we started where any detail obsessed team would, testing everything. We worked with vendor after vendor, trying different color enhancing technologies, coatings, and tints. Some lenses technically enhanced contrast, but crushed certain colors. Others boosted vibrancy but made whites look dingy or yellowed. Some felt sharp at first but caused eye fatigue over longer wear. And a lot of them, honestly, just didn’t feel special. Our lenses had to speak for themselves. If someone put them on and didn’t immediately notice a difference, we weren’t interested.

Years of Experimentation

What most people don’t see is how long that process actually took. We didn’t nail AMP in a year. Or two. Or even three. It took nearly six years of experimentation to find the right balance between color enhancement and comfort. During that time, we went through thousands of samples. Some were close. Some were way off. Some felt promising until one small detail ruined them entirely. One of the biggest challenges was color balance. Enhancing vibrance and contrast sounds simple until you realize how easily it can go wrong. Push certain colors too far, and suddenly the world feels unnatural. Whites stop looking white. Reds overpower everything. On top of that, lenses still have to meet real world standards. Our lenses needed to pass traffic light requirements set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). That meant reds, yellows, and greens had to remain accurate, no compromises. Trying to enhance the colors we wanted without distorting the ones we needed was one of the trickiest parts of development. There were versions that looked great outdoors but failed standard testing. Others passed every requirement but lost that visual “pop” we were chasing. Every setback forced us to tweak, adjust, and try again.

The Breakthrough Moment

Eventually, after years of trial and error, something clicked. We found a formulation that didn’t just enhance color on paper,  it enhanced contrast in a way you could actually feel. Details stood out more clearly. Depth became easier to read. Subtle changes in terrain, texture, and light became more noticeable. And most importantly, whites stayed white. That was the moment we knew we were onto something real. Our AMP lenses increase contrast by over 30%, which directly improves clarity and overall visual performance. But numbers alone don’t explain it. AMP isn’t about turning the world neon or overly saturated. It’s about sharpening what’s already there, making details easier to pick up without straining your eyes.

What Actually Makes AMP Different

There are a lot of lenses on the market that claim to enhance color. Many of them technically do, but the difference with AMP is intent. We didn’t build AMP to win a lab test. We built it for real people doing real things outside. People who don’t want to be told what they’re seeing better, they want to feel it immediately.

AMP lenses are designed to:

  • Increase contrast and vibrance without over saturating

  • Improve clarity without causing eye fatigue

  • Boost the natural color balance around you

  • Perform across a wide range of light conditions

See for yourself

Looking back, we’re proud of how long AMP took to develop, even when it felt frustrating at the time. Every setback forced us to be more precise. Every failed sample sharpened our expectations. AMP represents years of problem solving, patience, and refusing to settle for “good enough.” It’s a lens that doesn’t need a long explanation once it’s on your face. You notice it. And once you do, it’s hard to go back.
